Length

It equals the distance between the axes of the two wheels plus one wheel circumference.

The upper wheel being adjustable in order to set up and tension the blade, you therefore get the maximum and minimum length of the blade which varies from one builder to another.

Length is normally six to eight times the diameter of the wheels. In order to get a better stiffness of the cutting edge, it is recommended to have the shortest possible length.
