Thickness

It is given according to the diameter of the wheels. It is between 1/1000° and 1/1250° of the diameter.

The ratio generally used is E =

N.B. : For a diameter over 1m20, the diameter has to be divided by 1000.

The steel must have high hardness and impact strength to make teeth setting and swaging possible, as well as to ensure a good cutting strength. Besides a good elasticty it is important to resist repeated flexions between the two wheels.
